1. Refined sugar

For those with ADHD, it spikes the hormone adrenaline, which is known to trigger more severe symptoms.

2. Corn syrup

High fructose corn syrup is used in many processed foods. It’s an artificial mixture that’s very similar to sugar. You’ll find it on supermarket shelves in cookies, cakes, sodas, and even crackers. There’s been a lot of buzz recently about the effects of this sugary substance on the brain. 3. White flour

Studies show that if you eat this variety of rice regularly, you’re ten times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

5. Soda

Sugary drinks are completely unhealthy. While most people feel caffeine is terrible for a person with ADHD, it has a reverse effect. Caffeine calms the ADHD brain, but the sugar in these beverages is staggering. One 12-ounce can of cola has around 40 grams of sugar, which is more than 80 percent of the recommended daily allowance. People who consume these drinks may notice an increase in hyperactivity and moodiness.

While many people reach for prescription medications to manage ADHD, much can be done by simply controlling one’s food intake. Eating a good diet has no side effects, and the rewards can pay off by maintaining a healthy weight and decreasing the risk of type 2 diabetes.
